Excerpt from The Life of St. Paul
When asked to write a foreword to Dr. Stalker's "Life of St. Paul," I thought of two things first the impression which I had received from a sermon that I heard Dr. Stalker preach a good many years ago in his own pulpit in Glasgow, Scotland, and secondly, the honor conferred in this privilege of writing a foreword to one of Dr. Stalker's books.
I felt sure before even glancing at the pages that I should be pleased and profited by their perusal.
The first thing that I did was to glance over the pages for the headings of chapters and the summaries of paragraphs. I found the arrangement admirable, and would advise those into whose hands this fine volume may come to follow this plan.
The only sentence apart from the headings which I read in the aforesaid preview was the last one in Chapter X, and that because the closing words, "the best of friends," especially arrested my attention.
I wondered before I read this sentence if the author was saying of Paul that he was going out of the world to the One who had been to him the best of friends. From this you may gather - what you like. Only I felt sure before reading the pages that Dr. Stalker would interpret Paul in a manner such as I could enthusiastically approve.
And now having read the volume I heartily commend it. It is the best brief life of Paul of which I know.

The Life of St Paul Classic Reprint Prof James Stalker 9781451018325 Books Reviews
We only know about history because o f what someone has written. This one is very informative and descriptive. The New Testament describes Apostle Paul a little, but not in great detail. This could be because he authored most of New Testament. It gives an in dept view of areas and situations describing why he wrote letters like he did.
I finished reading the bible for the second time in my life completely recently and the writings of Paul intrigued me more as I read them again. I was starved for more information concerning this man. This book satisfied this longing. It helped me understand Paul and the circumstances of his salvation and teaching. I truly recommend this book.
Excellent with no complaints. Highly recommend seller and will order again. Shipping was great and fast.
I downloaded this e-book as part of some research I'm doing on St. Paul. It is an older document and is a good, basic overview of the Saul of Tarsus, converted to St. Paul, that many have come to know. I would describe the writing as "earnest" but not in-depth scholarly. There are better books around today that examine Paul's life in greater detail and against a much richer research background. Still, it's a good introduction and is a free, public-domain book.
Short, but terrific book about (probably) the second most important person in the history of Christianity. The author considers what is known about the political, economic and religious environments during Paul's life and suggests how these probably influenced his acts and his ministry. For me, it brought a lot of what Paul did into sharp focus and helped make more sense of his travels and works. I enjoyed this classic book.
Really liked the book. Gave an insight into Paul's upbringing and how it influenced him. Also discussed the culture in the cities he traveled through which helped me to understand the environment he was in. Explained his writings in chronological order and how they built on his previous writings. Also how they related to where he was in his travels interactions with governments and criticizers.
This short little book is packed with information about the life of St. Paul. Much of it is derived from the book of Acts and Paul's epistles in the New Testament; some of it is from tradition. Acts ends with Paul imprisoned in Rome, but this book speculates that he was released from prison, later imprisoned again, and beheaded. What I found most fascinating was the author's perspective on Paul's life and ministry, especially his writings.
